This is the display of daily paintings on the wall of my studio. Daily paintings are so versatile. They can be hung as small groups when you start your collection and later as a whole wall area as your collection grows. Some of my daily paintings for the near future will be watercolor sketches made at Gilsland Farm Audubon Sanctuary in Falmouth, Maine. It's another one of my favorite spots and I've decided to paint a 4 season series of the meadow. I live near by and will make these watercolor sketches as often as I can get over there in preparation for the oil paintings. I'll post them here and on the website. The one above is obviously the first in this series. I'll still be doing the art squares and I'll post those here as well.

I was feeling very guilty that this is day five of the marathon and I had only completed one painting. It's been so gloomy here. Now the sun is coming out and I managed to get one painting done today. So I'm not too far behind thanks to FB friends who are urging me on. I hope to finish 30 by the end of the month. One Red Pepper, 4x4 oil on panel

Recently I drove up to a wonderful farm we have near Portland called Pineland. Every kind of fresh veggie, all locally grown and organic. This was an especially nice red pepper that caught my eye. Of course I had to paint it. It was hard to fit this pepper on a 4x4 panel. The folliage in New Gloucester that day was stunning. I love to ride in the country in the fall.

A weekend ago I spent a fabulous 4 days painting with my friends on the Pemaquid Penninsula in Maine. This is a very special spot there called Back Cove. You can see it from Shaw's Lobster Wharf. Day 26, Maine May Marathon

I had a wonderful day yesterday painting with several friends in Reid State Park. It was 88 degrees, in Maine, in May. Who could believe it. The surf was high and crashing on the rocks. Yesterday was day 21 of the painting marathon. I went out to the Maine Audubon Society's Gilsland Farm, a favorite place of mine. The fields and marshes are so colorful there.

Day 13, May Marathon

Day 13 was a few days ago. Too busy to get the posting done. I painted with my PPOM friends at the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge in Wells, Maine. Beautiful spot, but it got cold and windy as the afternoon sea breeze kicked in. Thought I'd fool around with some color studies. I did 3 of them but the other 2 still need a little more work. May Marathon, Day 4 & 5

South Carolina Marsh 1

Being a landscape artist, I enjoyed watching the scenery from the passenger seat as we drove along on our Road Trip. I took a lot of photos. It's incredible how the new cameras can capture a scene at 60 miles an hour. And since I love marshes there are lots of marsh photos. This one captured my attention this morning. It's a lovely marsh along Rt 17 on the way into Charleston, S.C.

Day 7 of the Road Trip, we arrived in Saint Augustine, Fla where we once had the pleasure of residing. I have often painted in this beach location so I couldn't wait to see it again. Boy, had it changed. The beach has been renourished and the sand dunes were spectacular. I finally got a chance to finish this work in progress from a trip to Pemaquid Point two weeks ago. Where does the time go? I've painted this scene so many times but this is the first time I've painted it in acrylic. I love to see the sailboats that go by off the point so I often include them in this scene.

Saturday we took a ride to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Mount Washington was already snowcapped. It was beautful set against the fall folliage. This is my first ever painting of Mount Washington or any mountains for that matter. These daily paintings are great for trying out new ideas.

Today's daily painting is an acrylic sketch done on watercolor paper last weekend in Lincolnville. The colors of the water in the marsh were so vibrant against the dark wooded area.

I was lucky to be able to paint last weekend in Lincolnville, Maine. One of my favorite painting spots there is the marsh at Frohock Stream. It was a bit chilly but the colors were fantastic. I've been trying to post this piece for 4 days - computer problems. Today seems to be my lucky day.

I'm trying to get back to posting a painting a day. It's nearly impossible. Last Thursday I went on a photo shoot with a friend in Kennebunkport. We intended to paint there but threatening clouds seemed to suggest we just take reference photos. This is the marsh at Parson's Beach. I don't paint from photos but I do sometimes refer to them while painting.

Ogunquit Salt Pannes

Another piece completed Friday at Ogunquit. The tide was going out so we had to work fast before the pannes disappeared. And it was very windy. Makes for fast painting. Yesterday I went to Ogunquit with some of my friends. It was very windy but I managed to do 3 paintings. These are 2 of them, each 4x4. It took us awhile to find a less windy spot and we ended up at the marsh near the north beach looking toward Wells. It was a little less windy there and we were able to work without being blown away.

I had lunch with a friend yesterday (no painting yesterday) who had photographed this marsh last week. It was such a lovely photograph that I asked her permission to use it for a daily painting. Since she knows I love marshes she was happy to give a thumbs up. So here's my daily painting version of this wonderful marsh in Cohasset. I'm still working on Thursday's painting but hope to get that done tomorrow.

Well, I've made it to day 3. Today I branched out which is the whole idea of these daily paintings. This is my first figure painting and I'm really excited about this new subject matter. These gals were on our painting trip to Peaks Island last week and I loved the colors, the hats, the gear. This was "Show and Tell" while we waited for the boat.
